José Javier Yanguas

Javier YanguasPhD in Biological Psychology and Health from the Universidad Autonoma Madrid, MA in Clinical Neuropsychology from the Universidad Autonoma Barcelona and MBA from Universidad de Deusto. From 1989 to 1999 Javier worked at the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council Home for the Elderly in Eibar, Basque Country, where he designed and launched projects with and for the elderly and their families. Javier is the principal researcher on several national and internationals research projects, and he is also the author or co-author of 80 articles and book chapters in his speciality. In 2004, Javier was awarded the Infanta Cristina Award for Research, in 2005 was the winner of the Caja Madrid Research prize, in 2007 the FCHH / Ramon Areces Foundation prize for Research in Aging and in 2008 again the Infanta Cristina Award. He has lectured on degree courses including Psychology, Medicine, Chemistry, Pharmacy in different spanish and foreign universities. He has actively participated in various European Networks such as TTS (Teaching, Training and Support) and Saumont Network, as well as in several joint-international initiatives. Javier has been the Spanish representative on Geriatric and Gerontological Society at the IAGG-International Association of Gerontology and is Vice-Chairman of the Zahartzaroa-Basque Geriatric and Gerontological Society. Javier sits on the Editorial Committees of the Spanish Journal of Geriatrics and Gerontology, and of the Journal of Psycho-social Intervention.

He is a member of the American Gerontological Society.


Pura Díaz Veiga

Pura D√≠az VeigaGraduated in Psychology by the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid since 1979. In 1985 she obtained the Degree and in the 2004 the Advanced Studies Diploma. She has participated in diverse research projects related to gerontology and the disability. She has been teaching in Master and Courses related to Social Gerontology and Disability in numerous Spanish institutions and also in Latin America. During more than 20 years she has worked as Psychologist in ONCE¬īs Basic Attention Team in Valladolid. She is author of more than 30 publications like the guide "When the ageing people need aid", published by IMSERSO (1997) and the "Manual for the psychological intervention in the adjustment to the visual impairment", published by ONCE (2003). Likewise, she is conductor in the Spanish Geriatrics and Gerontology Society Magazine. From 2007 to 2010 she also has formed part of the Technical Committee of this Society.

She is Currently Member of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the Board of Directors of this Society. She works as a researcher in the Department of R & D Matia Gerontological Institute (INGEMA).

Es Doctor en Psicolog√≠a Evolutiva por la Universidad de Santiago de Compostela y M√°ster en Gerontolog√≠a Cl√≠nica por la Universidad de A Coru√Īa. Ha publicado diferentes art√≠culos en revistas nacionales e internacionales incluyendo Acta Psychologica, Language and Cognitive Process, Psychophysiology, Journal of Ambient Computing and Intelligence, Alzheimer's Disease Research Journal, Revista de Neurolog√≠a, Revista de Logopedia, Audiolog√≠a y Foniatr√≠a y Revista Espa√Īola de Gerontolog√≠a y Geriatr√≠a. Profesor del Departamento de Psicolog√≠a Evolutiva y de la Educaci√≥n de la Universidad de Santiago de Compostela (USC). Entre 2005 y 2008 ejerci√≥ como psic√≥logo en la Asociaci√≥n Galega para a Axuda Dos Enfermos con Demencia tipo Alzheimer (AGADEA), trabajo por el que recibi√≥ el Premio Humanitas a la dedicaci√≥n e implicaci√≥n en actividades solidarias, sociales y humanitarias concedido por el Consello Social y la Asociaci√≥n de Antiguos Alumnos y Amigos de la USC. Tambi√©n ha recibido, entre otros, el Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado de la Facultad de Psicolog√≠a de la USC y el premio Beltr√°n Baguena 2009 √Ārea de Ciencias Sociales y del Comportamiento al mejor art√≠culo publicado en la Revista Espa√Īola de Geriatr√≠a y Gerontolog√≠a, por el trabajo "Discriminaci√≥n mediante marcadores cognitivos del deterioro cognitivo leve frente al envejecimiento normal‚ÄĚ. Es Vicepresidente de la Secci√≥n de Intervenci√≥n Social del Colegio Oficial de Psic√≥logos de Galicia y socio de las Sociedades Gallega y Espa√Īola de Geriatr√≠a y Gerontolog√≠a.
